Inform and 3DEO to explore new data project opportunities
Inform and 3DEO have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore how their respective solutions can be closely aligned to provide an added benefit to end customers.
The MoU will see both parties exchange knowledge with the aim of exploring new opportunities for the cooperation of how best to fully leverage port, terminal, and other maritime user’s data to deliver added value to those customers.
The MoU is part of Informs’s data strategy work which it launched in 2020 as it aims to provide data management, data analytics, and advanced data tools, such as machine learning to established software vendors across the industry.
Andy MacPherson, CEO at 3DEO commented, “3DEO provide innovative visualisation solutions to extract business intelligence, break down information silos and facilitate intuitive interaction and decision making.
“In doing so we provide clarity and insight which often highlights data gaps, data question, and opportunities for even greater insight and commercial advantage. Collaboration with Inform and their data capabilities has huge potential to unlock greater value for our mutual clients going forwards.”
Founded in 2015, 3DEO has developed an innovative solution that enables users to manage and view diverse and combined geo-located data through a single, easy-to-use, web-based portal for monitoring, analysis, and strategic decision making.
The 3DEO platform provides a single, intuitive, visual, management pane for diverse systems, data and information, bringing together business intelligence, breaking down silos, and facilitating insight and information sharing between stakeholders. 3DEO Solutions can be deployed in a wide range of settings including government, smart cities, defense, security, and commercial infrastructure. 3DEO are currently particularly active and generating considerable interest in the maritime sector.
Dr. Eva Savelsberg, SVP at Inform’s Logistics Division commented, “Inform is a well-established specialist in AI and optimization providing solutions to some of the biggest names in our industry like HHLA, Port of Rotterdam, GCT, and DP World. Data underpins all of the work our add-on optimization modules do so it made since for us to invest in building a strong data strategy component to our solution offering.”
Inform has a dedicated, company-wide data science division, called Inform DataLab employing over 35 data science specialists, consultants, and support staff all dedicated to delivering data strategy consulting and project execution.
Dr. Savelsberg continued, “When we combine the Inform DataLab’s deep knowledge of all things data with our team’s decades of experience in port and terminal operations and our proven Machine Learning module, we stand to offer the maritime industry a truly in-depth solution offering.”

Inform announced its first machine learning project in the maritime industry in early 2019 with their assessment on the application of machine learning in improving container data accuracy within a terminal’s existing TOS predicting a rise in accuracy from an average of around 60% up to 83%.
The results of that assessment have since been proven through the successful deployment of their Machine Learning Module and algorithms at HHLA’s Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) in the middle of this year.
In a recent industry trends report on AI, 68% of respondents noted the availability of skills on AI technology was a major challenge in achieving the benefits of AI in maritime and 56% of container terminal operators noted that they were learning how to implement AI or piloting an AI program with only 11% noting they had deployed AI into their operations.
Matthew Wittemeier, Senior Manager, International Marketing and Customer Relations at INFORM added, “3DEO are the specialists in our industry at aggregating and visualising an organization’s, typically siloed data. Their tool enables organizations across our industry to visualize and interrogate assets in ways not available before.
“Our aim is to take end customers to the next level of insight, whether that be predictive analytics, predictive maintenance, or deep machine enabled learning outcomes; really, the sky’s the limit.”
Inform has proven its market position of being a highly capable AI and optimization specialist offering add-on modules that deliver optimization capabilities into a maritime operators existing software stack.
Inform’s unique approach to AI, sometimes referred to as “hybrid-AI” pairs the best of both human and machine intelligence to allow their industry leading algorithms to deliver highly informed, unmatched performance improvements.
