Georgia terminal expansion gains government approval

APM Terminals (APMT) has received the first-stage land usage permit for the expansion of the Poti Sea Port.

In a statement, the terminal operator said Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development had approved the plans to double the port’s capacity.

Furthermore, it also means the project can move on to its next stage, which will include an Environmental Impact Study and detailed project documentation.

This will require APMT to work closely with the Georgian government to ensure that the timeline stays on schedule, particularly with the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the second stage is complete, the third and final phase of the permit process will see the development of an optimal solution for access to the port during the construction and eventual operational stage for the benefit of the logistics providers and the overall supply chain.

This, APMT said, will guarantee the success of this major infrastructure investment.
