Port of Montreal Authority and Adani Group renew collaborative agreement
The Port of Montreal Authority and Adani Group have renewed their collaboration agreement on business development, marketing, information sharing on maritime operations, new technologies and industry best practices for another five years.
In a statement, the Authority said the renewal is in designed to build on increased trade between Canada and India. In 2020, India accounted for 8% of the containers passing through the Port of Montreal, a significant increase on earlier volumes.
The success of the first agreement signed in 2018, the fruitful exchanges established between the two ports over the past few years, as well as the values common to the two port authorities have led to the desire to renew the collaboration agreement, the Authority said.
This new agreement will consolidate the existing links between the partner services of the two ports.
Additionally, it will enrich commercial relations and continue the work begun over the years, in particular the search for best practices, the optimisation of its logistics services and port facilities and the application of new technologies to maritime and intermodal transport.
The parties will specifically look at innovative solutions to facilitate the flow of trucks and the development of green energies.
As well as that, they will investigate the planning and efficient distribution of goods in the intermodal network, the exchange of information on container traceability and explore port infrastructures.
Sandeep Mehta, President of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, said, “It was a pleasure to work with the Port of Montreal team and the first three years of our collaboration were very beneficial.
“With the exponential growth of trade between India and Canada and several targeted initiatives, I am confident that the next phase of our agreement will be even more productive for both administrations.”
Martin Imbleau, President and CEO, Port of Montreal Authority, also commented, “India represents a market of the future for the Port of Montreal.
“Thanks to this agreement, the Port of Montreal strengthens its strategic position as the North American gateway for the container market from Asia.
“Sharing information and best practices, innovation and transparency are among the fundamental values on which we are building our vision for the future and our international business partnerships.
“In addition, beyond the commercial ties between our two countries, we are united in the vast collective fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“At a time when India is hit hard by an unprecedented wave, we offer our full solidarity and unreserved support to our colleagues and partners.”
