ZPMC continues to service Brazil despite pandemic

Chinese-state owned crane manufacturer ZPMC has delivered three ship-to-shore (STS) and five rubber-tyred-gantry (RTG) cranes to the Port of Salvador, Brazil, despite the chaos caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the company said the machines arrived at the Port on 14 May following a 44-day journey. Its after-service sales team helped coordinate the delivery, drawing in support from ZPMC’s subsidiary in Santos 2,200 kilometres away.

Brazil has been one of the worst affected countries of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent months, and for this reason unloading and installation of the new equipment required stringent care and safety measures. The entire process was completed by 22 May.

In mid-May ZPMC made a similarly resolute effort to deliver a fleet of STS cranes to the Rotterdam World Gateway amid COVID-19 safety measures and travel restrictions.

The Port of Salvador is the largest container hub in the north of Brazil and has had a close working relationship with ZPMC since the company entered the Brazilian market in 1996.

In that time the company has delivered 62 STS and 87 rubber mounted gantry (RMG) cranes.
