Ports of Stockholm boasts strong quarterly figures

The Ports of Stockholm has registered an increase in passenger traffic and goods volume – especially in Roll-on/roll-off (RoRo), containers, and bulk sectors.

As one Sweden’s largest freight harbours, Ports of Stockholm has seen growth across all business segments in Q1 2022 without suffering the strong blow of the pandemic even throughout 2021.

During the first quarter of the year the port has seen a surge by 4 per cent in RoRo freight, for a total of 73,000 tonnes moved.

The container business and bulk handling both also demonstrated strong growth, with a year-on-year increase by 16 and 19 per cent respectively.

The success has been ascribed to the introduction of two new RoRo routes – the Nynäshamn–Rostock launched in August last year and the Stockholm Norvik–Hanko implemented last February.

“I am glad and proud to see the freight segment performing so incredibly well, despite these turbulent times,” said Ports of Stockholm CEO, Thomas Andersson.

“The rise in goods volumes is proof of how important Ports of Stockholm is for the sustainable supply of goods to the region.”

“With the newly built Stockholm Norvik Port, we are additionally well provisioned with increased capacity that provides our customers with major opportunities to grow.”

In November last year, the Ports of Stockholm announced that a unique solar-powered smart buoy was being tested in the fairway.
