Kribi Container Terminal receives Green Terminal label

Kribi Container Terminal (KCT), located in the Port of Kribi, has received the Green Terminal label following an audit carried out by Bureau Veritas.

The audit process was carried out between 17 and 18 March on the basis of the eight pillars of the labelling process. This includes the construction of infrastructure that comply with international standards, waste management and the training of employees in best practices related to environmental issues.

The Cameroon terminal was awarded the label for its efforts in reducing its environmental impact through implementing eco-responsible measures.

Over the last few years, KCT has been committed to a vast investment program.

This has led to the construction of a new rainwater and dirty water treatment plant; this ensures efficient management of discharges and waste.

The implementation of business digitisation systems has made it possible for the facility to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

KCT also benefits from a dedicated power supply, allowing it to avoid using diesel for fuel.

“This label rewards the efforts made by the KCT teams to reduce the impact on the environment by implementing eco-responsible measures,” said Eric Lavenu, General Manager of KCT. “More than a privilege, this distinction is a responsibility that commits us to continue our efforts to further reduce the environmental impact of our activities.”

Olivier De Noray, General Director of Ports and Terminals at Bollore Ports, added: “We are extremely satisfied that KCT has become our sixth port concession to obtain the Green Terminal label.

“It certifies the seriousness of our commitments and the measures put in place to mitigate the impact of our activities on the environment. On a daily basis, the Green Terminal label allows us to offer our partners and users of our terminals logistics solutions that are both efficient and eco-responsible.”

Last year, the facility also received five new yard gantry cranes in a bid to improve its container handling efficiency and productivity.

In a statement, the terminal operator said the Konecranes-built equipment helps boost container traffic at the Port of Kribi and meet cargo handling growth. In 2020, KCT posted a 56.27% year-on-year increase in containerised volumes.
