100+ containers affected as ONE boxship heads to Charleston

An Ocean Network Express (ONE) vessel which suffered a damage or loss of over 100 containers will head to the Port of Charleston.

The 13,900 TEU MV MADRID BRIDGE, which suffered a container collapse on 7 January, is expected to berth at the Hugh K. Leatherman terminal in Charleston on 20 January for potential repair and further examination.

Based on ONE investigations, around 60 boxes were lost overboard, and 80 units were damaged. Additional losses and/or damage may be found with further investigation.

ONE wrote in a statement: “More details on the schedule recovery and cargo arrangement will be advised once information is available. We regret the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding in this regard.”

The vessel, serving the East Coast 4 (EC4) service, suffered the container collapse in the North Atlantic Ocean during transit to her next port of call in New York.
