Port of Valencia holds crane rescue drill

The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has carried out a rescue drill of a crane operator at one of its terminals.

The exercise aimed to check the efficiency of the Self-Protection Plans of the PAV and the wider port community and improve actions in events involving ships berthed at the port.

The drill consisted of the rescue of an unconscious crane operator inside the cabin of the crane on the terminal of the port area due to the emission of smoke from a fire of some containers on the deck of a moored ship. The drill also focused on extinguishing the fire.

Many different organisations were involved in the drill including the Valencia Maritime Captaincy, Boluda Tugboats, the Valencia Fire Brigade, the Valencia Port Employment Centre ambulance, the Port Police and personnel from the PAV’S Emergency Control Centre.

The Port of Valencia has also recently signed an alliance with the Port of Hamburg which will see them collaborate in the development of maritime projects, with emphasis on the promotion of hydrogen.

Announced in November 2021, the alliance will specifically focus on projects of clean energy with support from the European Union. Both parties have agreed to focus their efforts on hydrogen generation initiatives, storage stations, supply and transport, and the use of hydrogen in terminals and machinery.
