OOCL announces China Straits Service 3

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has introduced its new China Straits Service 3 (CSS3), strengthening its China to South-East Asia service network.

The launch of this new service is to supplement CSS1 and CSS2 which were launched in 2020 and will further the network coverage between China, Singapore, and Malaysia, providing customer with competitive and reliable shipment options while also catering for the increasing demand in the market.

The full rotation of CSS3 is as follows: Qingdao (China) – Shanghai (China) – Xiamen (China) – Nansha (China) – Singapore – Port Kelang (Malaysia) – Penang (Malaysia) – Port Kelang – Pasir Gudang (Malaysia) – Nansha – Qingdao

The service is set to be launched on 18 December 2021 from Qingdao.

This follows the news that OCCL has recorded a huge increase of 125.3% to $4.31 billion in revenue through the third quarter of 2021, despite facing issues with congestion around the network which drove down liftings by 7.2% and loadable capacity by 7.6%.

For the period of Q1 to Q3, with Q3 ending on 30 September 2021, total revenues recorded growth of 114.4%, while also seeing a total lifting increase of 9.6% compared to the same period the previous year.

Only the Asia-Europe service reported an increase in volume during this third quarter, growing 6.1% to 415,180 TEU.
