JNPT records over 40% container growth in first half of financial year
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has recorded a 40.40% surge in container traffic for the first half of the 2021-2022 financial year (FY2021-22).
JNPT handled some 2,703,051 TEU for the period, against 1,925,284 TEU for the same period last year.
Total container traffic handled in September 2021 stood at 452,108 TEU, a growth of 18.86% compared to September 2020.
The rail coefficient in the first half of FY2021-22 was 18.04%.
DP World’s Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal (NSIGT) crossed the 100,814 TEU in September 2021, the highest ever TEU handled since its inception.
JNPT wrote that its newly constructed coastal berth will give a push for coastal cargo movement and provide better infrastructure for coastal shipping and decongest rail and road networks, ensuring effective intermodal transportation solutions.
The JNP-CPP App was launched to provide access to live data of Centralized Parking Plaza (CPP) operation and real-time visibility across the supply chain.
Shri Sanjay Sethi, IAS, Chairman, JNPT, commented, “JNPT has been undertaking various measures to ensure the port is at par with technologically advanced global ports.
“In a technological push, JNPT installed two mobile x-ray scanners at NSCIT and APMT to give the security agencies an advantage of taking appropriate action before the container is allowed to exit and enhance our efficiency and considerably reduce import dwell time due to independent scanning facilities for each terminal.”
