Kalmar to deliver reachstackers and forklifts to Kenya Port Authority

Kalmar has secured two orders from the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) to help enhance cargo handling capabilities at its Mombasa Container Terminal.

The first order made by the KPA was for three forklift trucks and was booked in Cargotec’s Q2 order intake. The second order consisted of eight reachstackers and was booked in Cargotec’s Q3 order intake. All new orders are scheduled to arrive in Q1 of 2022.

“We took delivery of our first Kalmar reachstacker in 2005, and it is still running flawlessly,” said Eng. Julius Tai, Head of Terminal Engineering at KPA.

“Over the years Kalmar has always been willing to listen, adapt and provide us with solutions that meet our requirements without compromising on capacity. We are very much looking forward to welcoming these new machines to our fleet at the start of next year.”

These new orders closely follow previous purchases from the port authority for four Kalmar Gloria reachstackers delivered in 2020 and a total of 50 Kalmar terminal tractors delivered in 2019 and 2020.

Rob van Klingeren, Vice President of Kalmar India, Middle East and Africa, added “KPA is a highly valued Kalmar customer in the region, and we are very pleased to build on our excellent working relationship with them. I would also like to acknowledge the important role played by our local dealer Power Parts Kenya in securing these latest orders.”

Kalmar has also taken orders from the likes of SEAC and Tropical Shipping. Expected for delivery in Q1 of 2022, SEAC purchased 15 medium electric forklifts to be deployed across its 11 manufacturing facilities across France. Whereas Tropical Shipping ordered two Gloria reachstackers and three diesel-electric straddle carriers and is expected to be delivered in Q4 of 2021.
