Vietnam ports boost container throughput despite COVID-19 pressures

Ports in Vietnam have reported increased throughput in its container sector for 2021 despite COVID-19 restrictive measures.

The Vietnam News Agency reported that ports have experienced an 18% year-on-year surge in containers processed through its port facilities from the beginning of 2021.

The Vietnam Maritime Administration said that its ports increased its throughput to 16.8 million TEU.

The growth comprised of 5.4 million TEU in exports, a 16% increase, and imports of 5.5 million TEU.

During early August 2021 Tan Cang – Cat Lai Terminal (TCCL) and Tan Cang – Hiep Phuoc Terminal (TCHP) in South Vietnam suffered from “a rapid surge” in over-dwelled import containers due to business closures and lockdowns in the region, the Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP) wrote in a 5 August statement.
