Haropa Port launches fifth biggest maritime hub in Northern Europe

Haropa Port, the maritime complex comprising the ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, has launched the Seine Axis Major River and Sea Port, the fifth biggest hub in Northern Europe.

In a statement, Haropa Port said it will offer a “unique” port model that is “resilient, agile and sustainable”, and one that addresses the “needs of the new world”.

Furthermore, it said it benefits from “unique geographical advantages”, such as a long maritime coastline and an efficient inland waterway corridor in the shape of the Seine River which connects the Atlantic to a market of 25 million people.

The Port said the French government has accounted €1.45 billion to improve operations at the complex between the years 2021 and 2027.

Stephane Raison, Haropa Port CEO, said the new port complex will give the region “a higher profile in Europe’s competitive environment” and provide a preferential location for new industrial operations generating jobs.

“The high level of ambition is founded on winning back market share by offering a benchmark port and logistics system to serve customers and partners in France and overseas,” Raison said.

In January, Haropa said it was already starting to see the benefits of infrastructure investments as it rebounded strongly following the COVID-19 pandemic.

In total, the ports invested $196 million infrastructure development projects in 2020, in addition to the $364 million contributed by private sector partners.
