Two more Liebherr STS cranes secured for Antwerp Container Terminal

Antwerp Container Terminal (ACOT) has placed a new order for two further Liebherr ship-to-shore (STS) cranes as it continues to increase container capacity.

SEA-invest Group, owner of ACOT, said the cranes are identical to those it received in 2020 – and is a result of the terminal operator’s continued expansion into fruit handling and tank storage.

The Liebherr STS cranes have an outreach of 60m, a span of 30m, a back-reach of 25m, a lift height over rail of 46m, and a safe working load of 65 tonnes under twin lift spreader.

The cranes also have primary rocking beams to allow flexibility in future operations and can operate on quays with a span of 30.48m as well as 30m.

The new cranes will sit on the 900m long deep-water berth, allowing ACOT to handle Super Post-Panamax vessels with up to 22 rows across the deck.

Liebherr Container Cranes Managing Director of Sales, David Griffin, said Liebherr is “pleased to continue the journey” as SEA-invest develops in container handling.

“SEA-invest has counted on Liebherr for their stevedoring operations and are accustomed to the quality, reliability and productivity that Liebherr cranes can bring,” he added.

The Port of Antwerp continues to grow its container throughput year on year, with 2020 showing a growth of 1.3 % driven by a very strong second half despite the pandemic.
