APMT Pipavav reaches double stack train milestone
APM Terminals Pipavav (APMT Pipavav) has broken its record for the highest amount of double stack trains after it handled 181 in November 2020.
The terminal operator said 157 of the trains were outward double stack trains and this is the highest monthly number it has handled since it began operations.
The terminal is a pioneer in the concept of block train loading and has developed means to transport goods quickly around India and across the hinterland.
Furthermore, it is also one of India’s leading gateway port for containers and other cargo. In August 2020 it unveiled a $954.8 million expansion plan to allow the world’s largest ships to call. This plan would increase capacity to 1.6 million TEU.
Mr. Jakob Friis Sorensen Managing Director APM Terminals Pipavav said, “This is a big milestone for our port. Double Stack trains are truly a benefit to the logistic industry as it ensures fast, safe and pollution free movement of cargoes.
“This milestone showcases our competency and customer orientation. It also highlights our preparedness for handling the additional traffic once DFC [Dedicated Freight Corridor] connectivity opens to our port in next few months.”
