Containerchain and Ports of Auckland strike deal to improve terminal operations
Containerchain, a developer of cloud-based software solutions for the maritime industry, will implement its notifications vehicle booking system (VBS) and eGate/Driver products at the Ports of Auckland.
In a statement, the company said it had signed a 10-year contract with the New Zealand port, and that its solution will be used across all maritime and logistics operations.
This includes the Fergusson Terminal, South Auckland Freight Hub and Multi Cargo Wharves. Furthermore, the company said the agreement will extend the use of its technology, following the launch of the VBS at Port of Tauranga in late 2019.
Containerchain wen to say the agreement will improve the automation and efficiency with which the country’s inland and sea terminals manage movements of containers and cargo through its ports.
Ports of Auckland CEO, Tony Gibson said: “As one of New Zealand’s largest ports, our focus is on automating processes and improving efficiencies so we can continue to deliver better service to the cargo community.
“Containerchain’s offering will help us provide our customers with an integrated solution that will provide visibility and standardization across the key logistics nodes in the supply chain. It is a technology solution that will continue to meet our needs into the future.”
PortConnect General Manager, Dan Cowie, said the strategic offering between Containerchain and PortConnect will provide future strategic benefit to the entire New Zealand cargo community:“The use of Containerchain’s transport integrated platform across our network, shows unprecedented co-operation between the two largest ports in New Zealand.
“PortConnect already provides a platform for consolidated data flows, port interactions and real time tracking, the consolidated VBS platform is a great next step in the standardization pathway.
“The Containerchain platform has been in operation within New Zealand for a number of years, and through the Containerchain suite of products (TRIP-TMS, CDMS, Notifications and eGate / Driver) and the broader WiseTech Global group, we see more standardization on the horizon through on-going alignment of systems, business rules and data interactions.”
Managing Director of Containerchain, Chris Collins, said the 10-year commitment from the Ports of Auckland is an indication of the strength and functionality provided by the Containerchain solution and its relationship with PortConnect and its key stakeholders. “This is a fantastic outcome for Ports of Auckland and the PortConnect network.
“The benefits of implementing our integrated Containerchain solutions are vast, including optimal gate and yard efficiency for truck and container movements, improved turn times and lower operating costs for truck operators, and lower traffic congestion in and around the port precincts.
“Importantly, the Terminal Solution will provide greater visibility and proactive planning between cargo owners and freight forwarders and their transport service providers for moving cargo.”
Implementation of Containerchain at Ports of Auckland facilities will be rolled out progressively with completion expected in July 2021.
