Tianjin Port Group and Huawei agree to build a smart and green port

Tianjin Port Group will cooperate with telecommunication company Huawei to jointly build a smart and green port, according to reports from China-based news agency Xinhua.

According to reports, the agreement was struck at the World Intelligence Congress 2020, and will see the two sides work together on smart port development.

Where does Tianjin sit in PTI’s list of the biggest ports in China?
Huawei will reportedly provide comprehensive and high-efficient information and communication technology solutions as Tianjin looks for ways to transform its operations.

It will specifically explore ways to utilise 5G, big data and the Internet of Things (IoT), the fundamentals behind smart port operations.

Li Kewu, Huawei’s chief expert of port digitization, was quoted as saying that the company was “conducting innovation programmes and trials of 5G applications in major ports, including Guangzhou, Tianjin, Qingdao and Ningbo-Zhoushan”.

The deal with Huawei follows a recent agreement between the Tianjin Port Group and SITC International Holdings to increase digital innovation and decrease emissions in the supply chain.

It also signed a deal with the Port of Xiamen in May 2020 to accelerate research and development into supply chain connectivity and smart port technology.

Tianjin is one of China’s most technologically advanced ports and a vital hub in its proposed One Belt, One Road initiative.
