Valenciaport to study feasibility of third dock at Sagunto

Valenciaport will begin studies into a possible third dock at the Port of Sagunto as it looks to meet the demands of growing traffic and help the local and national economy.

In a statement, Aurelio Martinez, the President of the Port Authority of Valencia, said that the future of Valenciaport’s growth “lies in Sagunto” and that the authority must include the project in its overall strategic plan.

The announcement has come after the Mayor of Sagunto requested that the project be initiated to help the region recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Port of Sagunto is one of three state-owned ports Valenciaport operates, along with Valencia and Gandia, along Spain’s eastern coast. It is a multi-purpose port having traditionally specialised in handling heavy industry goods.

“We have received the support of the mayor of Sagunto to recover the project of the third dock, proof of the confidence of the City council in this initiative and in the economic activity that the port activity generates,” Martinez said.

Additioanlly, Martinez detailed support provided by Valenciaport to companies based in the city during the pandemic, which has reached approximately $67.6 million (€60 million

“This will affect the accounts of Valenciaport but will benefit companies to overcome the crisis, a sign of the support of the Port Authority of Valencia to the economic activity of our business network,” Martinez said.
