Tianjin continues smart port transformation with SITC agreement
The Tianjin Port Group, the leading port operator in the Port of Tianjin, has signed an agreement with SITC International Holdings (SITC) to develop a smart and environmentally-friendly supply chain.
In a statement, SITC said the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement of Port and Shipping will cover multiple aspects, including expanding the capacity and increasing the quality of container services at the Port of Tianjin.

Additionally, it will look to “optimize the network layout of the port’s routes, build a full logistics supply chain network system, and enrich port supporting functions; give full play to the advantages of port and shipping, and promote the development of sea-rail inter-modal transport”.
The parties will, according to SITC, “promote the construction of a world-class green, intelligent and hub port” and “comprehensively enhance the high-quality development level of port and shipping enterprises”.

The agreement is the latest the Port of Tianjin has struck as it looks to optimise its services and compete with the biggest ports in China. In particular, it wishes to position itself as a vital trade hub along China’s New Silk Road.
In May 2020 it signed a deal with the Port of Xiamen to accelerate research and development into supply chain connectivity and smart port technology.
