World’s biggest vessel begins maiden voyage

The HMM Algeciras, the largest container ship in the world, has begun its maiden voyage, leaving from Qingdao Port, China, on its way to the Port of Busan, South Korea.

Port Technology International (PTI) reported on the HMM Algeciras’ official launch last week, when it became the first of HMM’s new fleet of mega-ships, with capacities of 24,000 TEU.

The unveiling broke the record set by MSC Gulsun, launched in 2019, which had a capacity of 23,000 TEU.

According to VesselTracker, the vessel left Qingdao on 25 April and will arrive at Busan on 28 April.

After Busan, the vessel will continue on the Far East Europe 4 service, and call at Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Suez Canal, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, London Gateway, then Singapore via Suez Canal.
