Shanghai Port continues operation through COVID-19 lockdown

Shanghai Port is continuing operation despite a staggered citywide lockdown imposed in China.

From 5.00 am local time on 28 March, the lockdown imposed from Pudong (the east side of Huangpu River) will close businesses and tell people to stay at home.

Chinese state media confirmed that one of the biggest ports in the world, Shanghai Port, continues operation.


Inland, in a customer update, shipping line Maersk noted that some depots in Shanghai remain closed until further notice.

Trucking services in and out of Shanghai will be “severely impacted” by 30 per cent due to a full lockdown in the Pudong and Puxi areas until 5 April. All warehouses in Shanghai will close from 28 March to 1 April.

The Shanghai lockdown is the latest in a string of regional restrictions implemented in China following a rise of cases across the nation.

On 22 March following a weeklong lockdown, shipping companies reopened their warehouses and offices in Shenzhen.
