Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg completes modernisation upgrades

The Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg JSC (SP SPb) has completed upgrades to its port infrastructure in a bid to modernise port operations.

As part of its plan for 2021, the port has upgraded its storage facilities, railway infrastructures, power engineering facilities, and repaired its berths.

A total of three kilometres of railway and crane tracks have been repaired alongside 13 switch assemblies and one highway crossing. Additionally, SP SPb has reconstructed 23,000 m2 of pavement at its storage facilities and roads, while also organising construction of two new cargo yards covering a total of 19,700 m2.

Berths have been repaired to help reinforce the shore and ensure the safe mooring of ships through the use of underwater engineering work on the berth’s sheet-pile wall.

Lastly, to ensure these berths have an uninterrupted power supply, the port has replaced 7.5 kilometres of cables and lines and have almost completed installing a new transformer substation.

“Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg pays special attention to the modernisation of port infrastructure facilities. That lets it enhance safety equipment movement, intensify loading/unloading operations, enhance the efficiency of shunting operations and, consequently, increase its total cargo turnover,” SP SPb said in a statement.

The port plans to maintain its development through into 2022, citing the continued modernisation of its storage, power engineering and railway facilities. Some resources will be allocated for the modernisation of technological and handling equipment.

Previously, the Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg unveiled its new container measuring tool. The weight measuring facility was integrated into the port’s railway infrastructure in an effort to improve the flow of trade and provide greater insight into its operations.

Announced in October 2020, the facility was developed by ASI corporation and is based on railcar scales RTV-D.
