Ford UK tests autonomous vehicles at London Gateway

Ford UK has recently conducted research at London Gateway looking into how autonomous delivery can impact operations and workflow at ports.

The trial is also set to demonstrate how freeports can become centres for innovation and collaboration.

DP World, terminal operator at Thames Freeport and partner to Ford UK, stated “With an expected investment of over £5.5 billion ($7.32 billion) in autonomous vehicle research worldwide from Ford by 2025 and £2 billion ($2.66 billion) investment by DP World in the UK, we look forward to the innovation and technological developments that will emanate from Thames Freeport as it sits at the heart of Britain’s trading future.”

Thames Freeport has also recently introduced a range of financial incentives to attract businesses to relocate to its premises.

As of 19 November 2021, anyone setting up a new manufacturing, clean energy or logistics business at the Thames Freeport will be able to access tangible economic benefits which are available across the three tax sites at Ford Dagenham, the Port of Tilbury, and London Gateway’s Logistics Park.
