Three new RTG cranes for APM Terminals Valencia

Parts for three new Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes have been delivered to APM Terminals (APMT) at the Port of Valencia as part of the company’s equipment upgrade drive.

Announced on 4 March, APMT has acquired three cranes capable of 60 tonnes up to 5+1 lifting capacity.

Once fully operational in May, the terminal will benefit from the RTGs that are equipped with a new generation STAGE V engine and RCS smoke cleaning, reducing NOx emissions. The high performance of the engine will also save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions.

Components to integrate the three RTGs have been manufactured in Finland, Malaysia, and Ukraine, and have already arrived at the terminal.

All machines are equipped with Differential Global Positioning System (DPGS) facilities, improving productivity and employee safety.

The procurement of the new RTGs is part of an investment drive to renew fleet, and improve capacity and productivity of the equipment at the terminal.

In February 2021 APMT launched its New Vessel Inspection app to improve information exchange across its operations. AMPT also expanded its container weighing service with three new weighbridges equipped with cameras and sensors to record weight of loaded and unloaded vehicles.
