Contship Italia maintains operations as coronavirus grips Italy
Integrated maritime, inter-modal and logistics company Contship Italia has said its operations will not change following the coronavirus outbreak in Italy but that it will continue to monitor the situation.
In a statement, the Italian company said that following the authorities’ actions to contain the coronavirus, terminal operations in La Spezia (LSCT), Ravenna (TCR) and Melzo (RHM) will continue to work as normal.
The virus has now spread far into Europe, with Italy experiencing the most rapid increase in cases.
On 21 February it had six reported cases, as of 26 February it has more than 200 which makes it the worst-hit country in Europe so far and the worst affected country after China and South Korea. Seven people have died so far.
The coronavirus outbreak has had a severely detrimental effect on the maritime sector and wider global supply chain, something that Port Technology (PTI) has explored in two exclusive insights.
