Port of Gothenburg and Wabtec to implement Port Optimizer

Wabtec has signed an agreement with the Port of Gothenburg to implement Port Optimizer™, a first-of-its-kind information portal designed to digitize maritime shipping data for cargo owners and supply chain stakeholders through secure, channeled access.

The agreement marks the first use of Port Optimizer by a European port.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Port of Gothenburg to better utilize their assets and plan for labor,” said Scott Holland, Vice President of Wabtec’s Network & Logistics business.

“Our work with the Port of Los Angeles, the Western Hemisphere’s busiest container port, clearly demonstrates how Port Optimizer can transform operations, drive productivity from ship to shore and from the terminal to the customer. We are excited to bring the same capabilities to help goods reach consumers faster in Europe.”

Port Optimizer is a cloud-based software solution integrating data from across the port ecosystem. It helps address key port challenges, including lack of advanced visibility to cargo in transit, disparate and inaccurate data sources, hidden inefficiencies, and conflicting objectives between community members. Disparate data sources are integrated from players across the supply chain to create a single source of information for the entire shipping process.

“We value the partnership with Wabtec and are excited to utilize Port Optimizer to increase throughput and improve efficiency,” said Malin Collin, Deputy CEO at the Gothenburg Port Authority. “Despite the pandemic, the Port of Gothenburg container terminal has been working at full capacity and with no cancelled calls by mainline vessels, which are responsible for the vital direct weekly services between Gothenburg and Asia.”

The Port of Gothenburg is the largest port in the Nordic countries, with over 11,000 ship visits per year from over 140 destinations worldwide. As the only Swedish port with the capacity to cope with the very largest modern, ocean-going container ships, Gothenburg handles nearly 30 percent of the country’s foreign trade, comprising nearly 800,000 containers per year.
