PSA Halifax invests in two additional STS cranes
PSA Halifax LP has invested in two additional Super Post-Panamax ship-to-shore container gantry cranes, enhancing the fleet at its Atlantic Hub terminal.
The latest additions to the terminal’s equipment offer enhanced outreach capable of spanning the largest vessels being deployed along the North American East Coast.
The cranes will be added to PSA Halifax’s main berth alongside five existing Super Post-Panamax units.
Delivery of the machines is scheduled for early 2023.
“As the first port of call on North America’s East Coast for ships transiting the Atlantic from Europe and South Asia, PSA Halifax offers an uncongested gateway for importers in Canada and the United States to connect directly with Chicago, Toronto, Detroit, Montreal and Moncton using our on-dock rail facility,” said Jan Van Mossevelde, CEO of PSA Halifax.
“The new cranes will ensure that our highly efficient low impact through-port container movements are matched at the waterfront by equipment capable of handling the behemoth vessels regularly calling at the terminal.”
Kevin Piper, President of the Council of International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Locals, added: “We are very pleased to see the significant investments PSA Halifax continues to make in terminal superstructure and the effort that is being made to grow the business, both to the benefit of our members and of the broader community.”
Back in September 2020, PSA Halifax welcomed the largest containership ever to call at a Canadian port when the 15,072 TEU CMA CGM Brazil arrived at the Port of Halifax.
In a statement, the terminal operator said the vessel berthed at the Port on September 9, 2020, while on the weekly Columbus JAX service, from South Asia to the East Coast.
