PSA Cargo Solutions reaches European railway milestone
PSA Cargo Solutions EuroMed and PSA Genova Pra have marked the 500th container-laden train from Genoa to Frenkendorf, a municipality in Basel, Switzerland, two years after the line was launched.
In a statement, PSA International said the Genoa-Basel route enables a direct connection from the Port of Genoa to Switzerland via tri-weekly round-trip trains.
Containers on this route are transported from the Port of Genoa to Basel, a well-connected intermodal hub, for onward movement to northern and central European markets.
With PSA Genova Pra operating both rail and terminal segments, smooth and agile coordination is made possible, according to PSA. Customers also benefit from fast, proactive, and flexible customer support.
The service has a track record with 83% of trains arriving within an hour and 94% within two hours of the given estimated time of arrival, PSA said.
“With this level of reliability, cargo owners using this alternate route to reach central European markets will be able to build more resilience into their supply chain network, the terminal operator said.
“Additionally, cargo owners moving goods from the Far East and Middle East to Central Europe by rail movement via Genoa can achieve lower CO2 emissions, as this is a shorter route overall that significantly reduces ocean navigation.”
PSA Cargo Solutions EuroMed has also recently established representation in Basel at the beginning of 2021 to be located even closer to its customers as it continues to improve its service offerings.
