Port of Rotterdam and Port of Corpus Christi sign MoU on environmental technologies

The Port of Corpus Christi and the Port of Rotterdam will collaborate to advance the development of innovative technologies in a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two hubs.

Announced on 25 February, the ports have outlined a number of shared objectives, including the exchange of information on emerging technologies relating to navigational safety and environmental protection.

The partnership will also co-develop trade and commercial opportunities. Since Congress lifted the ban on US crude oil exports to global markets in 2015, Corpus Christi has become the largest crude oil export gateway in the nation, moving almost 160 million tons in 2020, driven mainly by surges in crude oil, LNG, and agricultural exports.

Corpus Christi and Port Rotterdam will share knowledge on reducing its carbon footprint through carbon capture and storage technologies, renewable source-powered vehicles for port operations, and implementing discounts on port dues for vessels exceeding statutory environmental requirements.

This alliance and the discourse it will generate will enhance the headway we have made toward safe and sustainable industrial facilitation of navigable commerce, and we are excited about the benefits this will bring to our Port customers and the communities we serve.”

The Port of Rotterdam moved nearly 437 million tons of cargo through its waterways in 2020, with around 30,000 ocean-going and 100,000 inland vessels passing through the hub.
